The Free My Mind installation piece has some features which are not obvious in these pictures. The wings are motorized and flap slowly back and forth.

The piece is designed to be displayed in a dimly lit area. The winged box is illuminated by candles, LEDs, and seven internal tiny light bulbs, and the side stands are lit by "b"-lights (not shown here).

The two side stands each have three shelves, and each shelf holds a placard with one scene of the story/poem (see the close-up images of the six placards).

Sitting on top of each side stand is a glass atrium containing a suspended figure. Strips of paper with various phrases fill the bottoms. These atriums are also internally lit with LEDs.
